About Us:

We are a Heavy/Highway General Contractor based in Chestertown Maryland. The Company owns and maintains a fleet of over 300 pieces of equipment used in the construction of utilities (sewer, water, storm drain), earthmoving, and asphalt paving with several gravel pits and two asphalt plants.

About the Role:

The Survey / GPS Department Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Department Manager with various tasks throughout Maryland and Delaware.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeout and grade site features as requested by the foreman
  • Operate survey equipment but not limited to Trimble GPS survey equipment, and TopCon Level.
  • Perform CUT/Fill calculations comparing Design Elevation to Actual Elevation.
  • Record data for As-builts and file the data accordingly.
  • Communicate any issues in a timely manner to superiors and site foreman.
  • Travel to various job sites and upload GPS models into equipment.
  • Train field employees on how to use GPS equipment and recording data for as-builts.
  • Navigate software and operating systems but not limited to Windows 11, Microsoft 365 Suite, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook, FoxIt PDF, HCSS Plans, HCSS Field, and Trimble Business Center.
  • Complete daily time reports, mileage reports, and progress reports.
  • Clean, maintain and inventory of survey equipment and field equipment.
  • Assist the Head of the Survey Department and Jobsite Foreman with various duties
  • Perform other duties as instructed by the Supervisor
  • Track inventory of survey supplies
  • This job interacts with supervisors, laborers, operators, foreman, project managers, professional engineers, professional land surveyors, and partnering companies.

Job Requirements:

  • Valid Class D Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s license
  • Reliable transportation
  • Travel from jobsite to jobsite to perform tasks
  • Ability to work independently and in a timely manner.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test

Preferred Experience:

1-2 years of experience in the field of survey and/or construction

Education Requirements:

  • Strong background in mathematics and computer science
  • Relevant job experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform physical labor indoors and outdoors in all types of weather
  • Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds or less

Additional Requirements:

  • Random drug testing is performed monthly
  • Must be available to work occasional long hours and weekends
