Yard Laborer / Operator

About Us:

We are a Heavy/Highway General Contractor based in Chestertown Maryland. The Company owns and maintains a fleet of over 300 pieces of equipment used in the construction of utilities (sewer, water, storm drain), earthmoving, and asphalt paving with several gravel pits and two asphalt plants.

About the Role:

The Yard Laborer/Operator maintains, organizes, and administers the storage yard.

Essential Duties:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as rubber-tired loaders, forklifts, light trucks, and miscellaneous equipment.
  • Operate chain saws, trenchers, generators, compressors, sprayers, and use hand tools.
  • Perform general and preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Carry out laborer duties as required.
  • Remove snow from streets, walkways, and parking lots as needed.
  • Help develop and maintain an inventory of yard stock.
  • Use an iPad to record and maintain inventory.
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and early/late hours.
  • Perform basic maintenance on buildings and grounds.
  • Maintain a weed and vegetation control program.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and D.O.T. card.
  • Deliver materials to job sites as needed.
  • Interact effectively with project managers and site foremen.
  • Maintain safe working conditions in the Chestertown Yard.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Other Duties:

  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment inside and out.
  • Perform other duties as instructed by the supervisor.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Ability to perform heavy physical labor outdoors in all types of weather, including high heat.
    • Candidates may be required to undergo a medical examination to determine physical ability to perform the job.

    Working Conditions:

    • Restricted movement, intense noise, extreme temperatures, dirty environment, possible night work, and occasional weekends.

    Education / Experience:

    One to three years of heavy equipment operation experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to perform physical labor indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
    • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
    • Body positioning includes bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, standing, walking, climbing, and using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
    • Random drug testing is performed monthly.
